SIRA, hosted by Southeastern Intercollegiate Rowing Association, is a huge deal here in the southeast. It is held every spring at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. SIRA is the team’s last opportunity to race before nationals in Philadelphia. The regatta was held this past weekend and span from Friday to Sunday. Heats were mostly held on Friday and Saturday, and finals were held on Sunday. It was a beautiful weekend, so we all came away with some great tan lines!

Some finals were held on Saturday. This included the man’s varsity pair who placed 5th overall. The women’s novice B boat came in 6th. Light weight events also had their finals on Saturday, and did not have any heats. The men’s varsity light 4 and the women’s varsity light 4 both placed 1st in their finals. The women’s novice 4 placed 4th in the B finals and the women’s varsity 4 placed 5th in the B finals. The women’s novice 8 boat placed 2nd in the A finals. The men’s varsity 4 had a great showing and came away with a 1st place in their final. Ending the day, the women’s varsity 8 had a very close 5th place finish.

UGA Crew proved again what a strong program we have. The next few weeks will be full of hard training in preparation for nationals in Philadelphia.
