UGA Crew Wraps Up Fall Season with Wins

On November 11, 2006 the UGA rowing team traveled to Augusta, Ga to compete in the Head of the South regatta on the Savannah River, their last of the fall 2006 season. With this regatta being located only a few hours away, the team was able to race against local competition as well as have local spectators attend. It was a great weekend and filled with many boats medaling which is a nice way to end such a fantastic season.

In the heart of Augusta many competitive teams such as Virginia Tech, University of Alabama, and Jacksonville University all came out one last time to show what they are made of. However, according to Couch Louis Kirchner, "They may have fancy scholarships, boats, and all the advantages. But what they don't have is heart." And that is exactly what UGA came out and showed at this race.

The many weeks of training paid off and were seen by the numerous Varsity and Novice boats that medaled. The MV4+ captured yet another gold medal, WV8+ took home second beating out varsity powerhouse Jacksonville University, and VWLt4+ gained their third first place finish this season. Novice boats did phenomenal as well with the NW8+ capturing 1st, as well as the NW4+ taking home third.

UGA Crew will take a break from competing until the spring sprint season, but will be training all winter break to prepare and be stronger than ever.
