John Hunter
On Saturday, April 5th, The UGA Rowing team competed in the John Hunter Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Conditions were wet, muddy, and cold with temperatures in the high forties to low fifties and overcast skies, but the Dawgs brought a strong showing as several varsity and novice boats brought home metals. In fact, by the end of the day every single novice rower was a proud owner of at least one metal, if not more. Several varsity rowers also brought home metals and clinkage (multiple metals).
The Women's Varsity 4+-A boat won 2nd place in their heat with a time of 8:18.67, advancing onto finals. The Women's Varsity 8+-A also won second place in their heat and advanced onto finals with a time of 7:22.17. The Men's Varsity 4+-A boat came just shy of 3rd place in their heat with a time of 7:17.51. The Women's Novice 4+ -A boat took 1st place in their heat with a time of 7:52.07. The Women's Novice 4+-B boat stole second in their heat with a time of 8:16.50. The Men's Novice 4+-B won 3rd place with a time of 7:45.02. Likewise, the Men's Novice 4+-A won 3rd with a time of 7:33.12. In the 8+ races, the Women's Novice 8+-A took second place with a time of 7:33.12. The women's Novice 8+-B boat came in second in their heat at 8:17.28. Last but not at all least, the women's JV 4+ came in second with a time of 8:14.42. It was difficult to carry all that metal home but the team managed to pull through.
At this point in the season, Coaches are tapering the workouts for post season rowers to rest up for SIRA after a few weeks of intense training. SIRA will be taking place on the same course as John Hunter in Oakridge this weekend, April 19th - 20th. After SIRA, it will be a few short weeks until the team travels to Philadelphia, PA for Dad Vials (National competition).
A BIG thanks to all the parents and friends that have helped make this season a success!
